3 POSTURES TO RELIEVE BACK PAIN

3 POSTURES TO RELIEVE BACK PAIN

There may be some stage in life where we might strain our back.

For the safety of our backs, we should bring awareness into the body especially when practicing postures like back bends. As the lower back is the most flexible part of the spine we tend to over extend in that region, making the lower back  prone to injury.

Gentle hip openers will help loosen up the back, as tight hips attribute to a tight lower back.

Here are a few postures that may help relieve back pain.

  1. Downward Facing Dog

This is one of my favourite postures, as you feel the whole body stretch whilst holding the pose!

Releasing all tension in the neck and shoulders, lengthening the spine through extending the tailbone to the sky, you release and decompress the back.

Downward facing dog also stretches hamstrings which will also help with back pain.

  1. Sphinx Pose

Sphinx pose is a restorative posture which is fantastic for toning the spine and stimulating the sacral-lumbar arch, promoting the natural curvature of the spine. This makes it a fabulous pose for the back and counter-acts the position from sitting in a chair.

3.Legs Up The Wall Pose

Get as close to the wall as possible and raising the legs to rest them against it. This can be a deeply relaxing pose! Make sure your back is fully supported, you can place a pillow or folded blanket under your hips if required.

This posture regulates blood flow, restores tired legs and feet, stretched the back of the neck, front of the torso and back of the legs and of course relieved mild back pain.

It’s always recommended to consult a doctor before starting an excersize routine, especially if you have severe back pain and/or injuries. Remember to always listen to your body by feeling into it. Enjoy the restoration, relaxation and healing power of Yoga postures!
